Every election cycle we have the honor of recommending to our community friends and neighbors the candidates that we have found to stand for the Godly principles of good government that our country was founded upon. This year, in light of the dramatic choices before our nation and community, we have compared the principles, persons, positions, party and platforms of the candidates for office. We have listened to the candidates, we have read their positions, we have researched their background and votes, we have reviewed their supporters and financial disclosures, we have read their party platforms (links to all these resources can be found under the Election 2006 section on the left) – and having done so – we can heartily endorse the following candidates as those who are deserving of your vote, they have ours!
This Tuesday, November 7th the stakes could not be higher for our community and our country. We have been utterly amazed at the stark contrast that is being placed before us between many of the candidates and their party. This year, for the first time ever (and perhaps never to be repeated), we will be endorsing both a party and candidates. Taking the sage advice of George Washington, we have always endorsed the candidate without regard to party. However, the stakes are so high this year and the manifest direction of each so devastatingly different, that we feel compelled to make this exception.
As Zell Miller has noted, our old party of the South seems to have cut its moorings from the principles of God and good government, choosing instead to run headlong and loudly down a disastrous path of ignoring both. While many in the party of Lincoln and Reagan, for all of their human faults and failings, have in word - and to a large extent in deed - sought to practically apply those principles.
Candidates from both parties talk about caring for children and the elderly, but only one has taken tough stands to actually protect the unborn and disabled; to protect our children from predators, and enforce these laws.
Candidates from both parties talk about protecting the family, but only one has taken practical steps to protect its very foundation – marriage of one man and one woman.
Candidates from both parties talk about ethics and ending corruption. One party gives standing ovations and promotion to its members that have admitted to actual immoral sexual conduct and breaking the law. The other party condemns even the communication of potential such acts among it’s members, requires them to resign and investigates the matter.
Candidates from both parties talk about taxes, but only one has taken steps to make sure that people get to keep and manage their own money.
Candidates from both parties talk about the problem of illegal immigration – only one has taken steps to practically stem the tide with compassion and control.
Candidates from both parties talk about fighting terrorism and supporting our brave soldiers – but only one seems to realize we are at war and is actually trying to win it - taking the necessary steps to protect our country, while honoring and encouraging our soldiers. One party says America is a light of freedom. The other party says that America and Israel is the real source of the world problems. One party’s talking points sound like those of the terrorists, the other the heart beat of Americans.
Given that the party with the most seats in our halls of government – both state and national - will determine the direction of each politically and principally – if we are to honor the principles of God and good government – we have no choice but to whole heartedly endorse and commend for your consideration the candidates of the Republican Party.
We believe the following candidates to be among those who will serve to:
- protect your life, that of the unborn, aged and disabled as God valued it
- protect marriage as one man for one woman as God instituted it
- protect your property and means by keeping taxes low, government small and your property in your hands to manage as God gave it
- protect our community by stemming illegal immigration, maintaining the integrity of the citizen’s vote, and enforcing the laws,
- protect our country by recognizing that we are at war and staying vigilant against those who seek to destroy us, fight and not fly from the enemies of freedom, honor and support our brave soldiers who sacrifice their lives and families to fight for our very lives and families
Many of these candidates have been wrongly maligned, and in the case of Senator Nancy Schaefer – out right lied about at times. That can be expected from opposition that cannot stand on their record of principled government so seek to edge out electoral victory by soiling the character of another. However we have found that principled character, record and position can stand the bright light of examination – and Senator Schaefer did. With a strong basis in the values that are known, loved and lived by north Georgians, Senator Schaefer has given of herself to her community. The greatest embodiment of a person of principle is when they practically live them out in actions and votes, then can come back home every week to their community, sit unassumingly with a spouse and grandchildren – graciously talking, not about politics, but school, games and life.
This is the picture of a political servant leader that we want to represent our community and an example of the ones below that we can heartily endorse to you for your consideration and vote this coming Tuesday, November 7th. (click on names to visit their campaign site to review their positions)
